Abstract

We confirm the presence of the widespread hematophageous slug mite Riccardoella oudemansi new to the Canary Islands. The slug mite was discovered on two endemic gastropods: the semi-slug Insulivitrina solemi on La Palma and the true glass snail Retinella hierroensis on El Hierro. Evidence is provided that the mite can reproduce on both hosts. In addition, the mite was found on Deroceras reticulatum and Limacus flavus, two slugs introduced to the Canary Islands.
